The Mind Behind the Books {Part 2}

One of the neat things that I noticed when I was writing my author bios for my two upcoming children's books, Magnus O'Meere, Mind Pioneer and Hazel Mist, Hypnotist is that there are a lot of similarities between Magnus' learnings, Hazel's journey, and my own. Truth be told, I honestly didn't think about it in this way before--I just wrote my stories and followed my inspiration. However, just as Magnus became intrigued with marvellous minds of Tesla, Einstein, da Vinci, and many more, these minds filled me with wonder, too. And just as Hazel followed her passion which led her on an adventure deep into the workings of the mind, my journey did as well. As I sat in Psychology 101 at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, I was instantly intrigued by the development of the mind--so much so that I wanted to switch my major from Sports Medicine to Psychology. I was discouraged from following through on my excitement, so I "stayed the course" and stuck to my original educational plan. (Another message I try to convey through my books is that you can always change your mind--you are never tied to a decision if it no longer feels aligned to you). In my early twenties, after I was startled awake by ovarian cancer, I was introduced to BodyTalk and a technique called MindScape that taught me how to build a mental framework through which I could access my subconscious mind, where limiting mental programming is stored. Here is where I was first introduced to the way in which some of history's most incredible minds utilized structured intuition to invent, create, and test their most revolutionary ideas. This is also when I became completely captivated by how beliefs and attachments lead the mind to compress and limit the wild possibilities available to us at any given moment. None of our perceived limits or negative self talk is true, except for the fact that we believe it to be true. That's where our self-limiting beliefs get their power to compress our potential and stifle our abilities. This completely blew my mind for two reasons: one--because obviously I had a whack load of wildly limiting mental programs that I was running on; and two--because said beliefs could be changed. WHOA. The brain is a powerful super computer that can change, heal, and grow when we stretch our minds, rather than 'thinking' we know it all. This is called neuroplasticity. Often, we barely scratch the surface of mind's true potential. I was awe-stricken. Determined to prove my own self doubt wrong, I began to uncover some of my mental blocks as I dove into the potential of my mind. In doing so, I began to witness the transformational shifts that were possible, within myself and others, when we question our self-talk, our perceived limits, and the fears that keep us boxed in. Now, that is what I call self-empowerment at its finest. It is potent, powerful, and available to us whenever we choose to be aware. This is impactful information for adults and children to be aware of--that they are ultimately in control of their mind if they so choose to be.

I'm excited to share the power and potential of the mind in my upcoming books, and I hope you are, too. I truly believe that everyone should have access to the awareness of the sheer magic that exists within the mind. That's the kind of education and empowerment that our future generations need.
